Laugh out Loud for Chrissakes

Admittedly, you have to enjoy Garfield enough to appreciate this...but, I love it
Enjoy
Thanks to Jared for sending it my way.

Life imitating art imitating life imitating a shadow puppet.

One step at a time - I am moving slowly away from my old home and (it seems) just as slowly gaining footing in my new one.
Chocolate chip pancakes at the neighborhood diner, walking in a snow covered old wood park (as Patrick claimed it) looking out over the Hudson from a vista (a real live vista!) and cleaning house to make room for the belongings that will make their way across the Hudson and into this feels-too-big-for-just-me-right-now apartment

The new duet is creating itself from moments that are happening, moving around in my bones and then ending up on the dancers.

A little ditty

Sleeps with Butterflies
(Tori Amos)

Airplanes
Take you away again
Are you flying
Above where we live
Then I look up a glare in my eyes
Are you having regrets about last night
I'm not
but I like rivers that rush in
So then I dove in
Is there trouble ahead
For you the acrobat
I won't push you
Unless you have a net

You say the word
You know I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don't mind
I don't hold on
To the tail of
Your kite
I'm not like the girls that you've known
But I believe I'm worth coming home to
Kiss away night
This girl only sleeps with butterflies
With butterflies
So go on and fly, then, boy

This away

Working away from NYC right now for another dance company -Truths:
You can make dances away from NYC and easily keep in contact with those who are there
It is great to have social time amongst dancers to aid rehearsal process
Living in a house of dancers is easy
Making dinner as a group makes for an enjoyable meal.
Dancing in the heat for 6 hours a day feels really good!

Did I not know these things? No, I knew them, but it is nice to have reminders.
I have goals connected to building Kinesis Project to the point that allows us to make dances out of town and bring them in to perform them...I just need the company to get a stable enough place that I can bring the dancers out of their lives and pay them for all of their time.

Humor Me. Its snowing!

damn global warming and whatever has kept the snow of out NYC..I've missed it terribly.
But not anymore, now NYer's have something to trudge through, dig storefronts out of, and have their cars buried because-of-the-cancellation-of-opposite-side-of-the-street-parking and plows!

I don't really have to worry about much of that - I don't own a car, or a store...so in my blissful lack of material goods, I get to just look!

this is the view out my new building's front door
Kids and a mom were outside sledding down the incline

St. Peter's - the little Church across from the World Trade Center - I'm not a religious person, but I love this church (actually I often love houses of worship.)

right now outside there is a ping-pingg..pingping of what must be a mixture of ice and snow -
it sounds like chimes from in here...but I wouldn't want to be out there -
small prayer to the universe that all who need warmth tonight, receive it.

Memories and Currents

this was written and posted two years ago.
and now, here I am -

My question to ponder in rehearsal tomorrow is:
In a dance about an Empty and the juxtaposition of hope co-existing with a confusing and surprising loneliness - where do you place the next step? the good kind of missing.
the warmth of possibility.

Tomorrow's recipe might look like this:
Start with a bit of Empty, mixed with a touch of Memory and a dash of Hope.
Or it might have some of this:

In
leaning backwards
into a sense of There

melting forward
to a stubble kiss

Flight is a blurry release
of
time
and worry

'til clear water reality
tumbles though
this cloudy mindscape

through easy walks
direct and playful eyes
catch
distracted question marks

with a warm request
of
Now

Urban Country Girl

It is a little sad how excited I am to be able to see
1. sunrises
2. trees
3. sky
from my new place.
here's a pic of the path across the street that leads up into Inwood Hill Park

Moving

It is time for the next part of this multi-month transition.

There is a historical park across from the new place
and this is Kinesis Project's new subway corner

I'll be on Payson..(right at the park)
